Annual 'Georgetown Jingle' to Benefit Pediatric Oncology

The event Sunday at the Four Seasons raises funds for pediatric programs at Georgetown's Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Georgetown's Four Seasons Hotel will host the seventh annual Georgetown Jingle Sunday to benefit pediatric oncology programs at Medstar Georgetown University Hospital.

Each year the event offers entertainment for families and an auction of designer-decorated Christmas trees. In the last six years, the Georgetown Jingle has raised $1.5 million for childhood cancer programs at Georgetown.

Dr. Aziza Shad told Patch in an interview in 2010 that everything the jingle is about revolves around children battling and suriving cancer.

"It is our job as the community, as physicians, as supporters of this program to support them because every penny is raise goes to make their lives better."

Shad, one of the region’s most respected oncologists, runs the programs at Medstar that the Jingle supports.

Each year designers partner with a patient ambassador, the children and young adults who put a face to the cause. The designers interpret a theme that they develop with the help of the patient ambassodors.

This year 17 trees add holiday cheer to the Four Seasons lobby. The center tree, designed by Sandi Hoffman of Sandi R. Hoffman Special Events, interprets the theme “The Shaker Abecedarious,” which is "based on the 1880’s children’s alphabet book A Peaceable Kingdom by Alice Provensen," according to a press release.

The other 2012 participating designers, with their themes, are:

The event usually centers around a kid-friendly day, but this year the Jingle will offer two "acts."

According to the press release, "The first act, Winter Wonderland, a family-centric afternoon, will be from 1 to 4 p.m. and the second act, Pamala Live!, an adult-only cabaret evening, will be from 7 to 11 p.m."

Georgetown businesses are supporting the event through donations.

For the Winter Wonderland family event, look for treats from Georgetown Cupcake, PAUL Bakery and Dolci Gelati and pictures with Santa, thanks to TTR Sotheby’s International Realty.

In the evening adult-only second act look for drinks and bites from top chefs at Georgetown and DC restaurants like BOURBON STEAK, Rouge 24, Proof, Bibiana Osteria Enoteca, Graffiato, The Source, among others.

According to the press release tickets (available here www.georgetownjingle.com) are:

"$150 per person, $350 for families of four, $50 for kids 3-18, and free for children under 2. The ticket price includes all event features – food, open bar, entertainment, tree/vignette displays, silent auction and much more."
