Celebrate Bastille Day in Georgetown

Georgetown restaurants, runners and others will be celebrating Bastille Day this Saturday with French wine, cheese and more.

Bastille Day, on July 14 every year, celebrates and remembers the storming of the Bastille prison in Paris that held political prisoners as well as a stockade of guns and ammunition. It is a national holiday in France and is referred to there as La Fête Nationale.

Here’s a round-up of some of the local Bastille Day celebrations:

DC Road Runners

The D.C. Road Runners club is hosting a Bastille Day 4-Miler on Saturday near Georgetown. The race will be on the Capital Crescent Trail, starting at Fletcher’s Cove. The race starts at 7 p.m. Registration is open until 3 p.m. on race day. More information is here.

The French Embassy

The evening before Bastille Day, the French Embassy will host a celebration featuring chefs from some of D.C.’s top restaurants, music and a silent auction. Tickets (which range from $100 to $150 per person) and more information on this open celebration are available at bastilleday2012.eventbrite.com/.

The French Embassy is inviting residents of France to the embassy for a celebration on July 14. Reservations are required and more information is available at frenchnationalday.eventbrite.com/ or on the Embassy’s website here.

Hillwood Estates and Museum

The Hillwood Estates and Museum is partnering with the Alliance Française de Washington for a French celebration of Bastille Day. Activities will include games, performances, dance, mime, and music from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. More information is available on the Hillwood Estate’s website here.

Bastille

The Alexandria restaurant is offering a three-course menu prix fixe for $29

Saturday, July 14 from noon to 9:30 p.m. The restaurant is located at 1201 N. Royal St. in Alexandria, just north of Old Town.

La Cote D’Or Café

The French restaurant on Lee Highway in Arlington is offering a wine tasting from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., a waiter’s race at 2 p.m. and fireworks at 10 p.m. in addition to special lunch and dinner menus. More information is available here.
