Coming: Major Closures to Canal and Reservoir Roads

Traffic disruptions will be significant. Expect Foxhall and MacArthur to be jammed.

Restoration work on a section of outbound Canal Road NW will cause traffic disruptions Monday, April 7 to Wednesday, April 9.

From the District Department of Transportation:

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT), in coordination with DC Water, will begin restoring a section of the roadway on outbound Canal Road NW from Monday, April 7 to Wednesday, April 9, 2014,
from 10:15 a.m. and 7 p.m., weather permitting. 

During this work, westbound (outbound) Reservoir Road at V Street NW will be closed to traffic.

Details of the lane closures and related detours follow:

10:15 a.m. - 2:45 p.m.

  • Westbound (outbound) Canal Road NW will be closed. Traffic on
  • Canal Road NW will be directed west on Foxhall Road NW, west on MacArthur Boulevard NW and then south on Arizona Avenue NW to reconnect with Canal Road NW.
  • Eastbound (inbound) traffic on Canal Road NW will be maintained. 

2:45 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

  • One lane on westbound (outbound) Canal Road NW, between Clark Street and Reservoir Road NW, will be open to through traffic.

Temporary signs and traffic control measures will be in place to alert and
guide the traveling public through the work zone. DDOT encourages all
motorists to stay alert as they travel through the work zone.
