Georgetown-Area Churches to Bless Animals this Weekend

The event is held annually to celebrate St. Francis of Assisi.

Bring your dogs, cats, guineau pigs and other favorite pets for a blessing at area churches this weekend.

  • Stop by St. John's Episcopal Church Georgetown Parish from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday for a blessing of the animals close to home. According to the St. John's website: "All animals — stuffed or real — will receive a St. Francis medal. There will be treats for all the pets and their humans companions."
  • Head up Wisconsin Avenue to the Washington National Cathedral for the animal-friendly ceremony, also on Sunday. The annual blessing will take place at 2:30 p.m. on the cathedral's west steps. Washington Animal Rescue League and the Washington Humane Society will be there with animals available for adoption.

Is your church offering a blessing? Tell us when and where in the comments.
