Georgetown Publishes List of Cooperative Landlords

As part of a recent initiative to encourage students to live in legal off-campus housing, Georgetown published a list of cooperative landlords

Georgetown just posted a list of 26 landlords representing 53 off-campus properties who have signed a and legally provide housing with a basic business license.

"We believe that landlords renting properties to students have an equal role to play in maintaining the quality of life in our historic neighborhoods," wrote spokesperson Stacy Kerr in an email to reporters.

Several weeks ago, Georgetown sent a letter to students' landlords asking them to sign a pledge to follow basic housing laws and to be a partner with GU to address issues impacting quality of life in the community.

Not everyone who received the letter was happy about it.

"We've heard from some landlords who were upset by our letter and told us they won't get a Business license, as required by DC law.  So we feel like we have started a dialogue that is helpful to everyone," wrote Kerr.
