Georgetown University's Rev. Raymond Kemp Named to Mayor’s Interfaith Council

Rev. Kemp is among 26 faith and community leaders appointed to the council Wednesday.

Georgetown University's Rev. Raymond Kemp was appointed to the Mayor Vincent Gray's Interfaith Council along with 25 other faith community leaders. The council will advise the mayor and his staff on religious affairs, serving as liaisons between the mayor’s office and the District’s faith communities.

Rev. Kemp is an adjunct professor at and serves as a Senior Fellow at Woodstock Theological Center there.

During his weekly press conference Wednesday, Mayor Gray said these leaders provide critical “spiritual nourishment” to District residents.

“While the founders of our great country wisely chose to separate the structures of church and state, religious affairs are an integral part of the public life of any community,” said Mayor Gray in a news release. 

Rev. Donald Isaac, the executive director of the East of the River Clergy-Police-Community Partnership, Inc., will chair the council.

According to his biography on the Woodstock Theological Center website, before coming to Georgetown, Fr. Kemp Rev. Kemp was the pastor at St. Augustine Parish (1974-1981) and Holy Comforter-St. Cyprian Parish (1986-1992), both African-American parishes in Washington, D.C.
