Grab Your Pom Poms: Wizard Girl Auditions Coming Up

The Wizard Girls will hold auditions for the 2014-15 squad on Saturday, July 19 at Trinity Washington University's Trinity Center.

Grab your pom poms — the Wizard Girls are holding auditions next weekend. The team is made up of young women from around the DC metro area who hold down regular jobs in addition to their team duties cheering on DC's Wizards basketball team.

The Wizard Girls will hold auditions for the 2014-15 squad on Saturday, July 19 at Trinity Washington University's Trinity Center, 125 Michigan Ave., NE in DC.

There are 16 to 20 spots available.

In addition to performing at all of the Wizards' home games, the dance team practices on an average of three times a week for 2.5 hours. Game days they are at the arena for five to six hours.

Team members are also Wizards ambassadors for various marketing and community appearances.

They do get paid for all of their time and costumes are provided for performances.

Here's more scoop:

  • Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and the fee is $10 to try out. 
  • Participants should expect three rounds of choreography focusing on jazz and hip-hop genres. Qualified candidates should wear a two-piece outfit with shoes with non-marking soles and be in performance-ready hair and makeup.
  • Bring a professional head shot photo and dance resume.   
  • Selected candidates will qualify for the Wizard Girls Finals Showcase to be held on August 4 at the Howard Theater. 
  • 30-40 Finalists will be selected into Wizard Girls finalist training camp
  • Training camp runs July 21st –August 2nd. Finalists should expect to attend three to four nights per week
