Do you have family or friends visiting DC from out of town for the Christmas or New Year's holiday? If they drove, you may want to get them a DC temporary visitor parking permit.
Parking officers will not be issuing tickets Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, but they will resume normal enforcement activities Wednesday. For the New Year's holiday officers will not enforce parking Jan. 1.
Ward 2 residents can go to the Second District Police station at 3320 Idaho Ave., NW to secure a permit good for up to 15 days. Someone is at the station 24 hours a day, so you can always get a permit.
Here's what you do to get the permit, according to the Department of Motor Vehicles website:
Applicants must provide one of the following as proof of District of Columbia residency:
- A valid District of Columbia driver license/identification card
- A valid District of Columbia vehicle registration card
- A current utility bill, lease, deed, settlement agreement or voter registration card.
Applicants for visitor parking permits must also provide the following information:
- The name and address of the visitor using the permit
- The state and tag number where the vistor's vehicle is registered.
To be valid, visitor permits must display the following:
- The license tag number of the visitor's vehicle
- The ward number of the District of Columbia resident
- The expiration date (no more than 15 days from the date of issuance)
