Mayor Hints at Campus Plan Solution During CAG Awards Ceremony

Mayor Vincent Gray praised CAG award-winner Ron Lewis for his role in the campus plan discussions

Mayor Vincent Gray hinted at a possible solution to the ongoing Georgetown University Campus Plan negotiations during the Citizens Association of Georgetown (CAG) annual meeting Wednesday.

Gray was on-hand to recognize CAG's four award winners Wednesday and offered particular praise for Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner Ron Lewis. Lewis was honored with the Belin Award for distinguished service to the Georgetown community.

"Last night we talked and [Lewis] said, 'I think we may be able to find a solution to this.' What a great victory that would be for everybody if everybody could come together and find a way to solve this issue with the campus plan," remarked Gray.

The Mayor also congratulated the university for "continuing the effort."

The ANC will offer an update on the Campus Plan at its June meeting, Monday.

Karen Daly, the executive director of the , received the William A. Cochran Award for "exceptional efforts to protect and enhance the community's parkland and architectural resources."

"We consider ourselves at the Dumbarton House privileged to share this historic neighborhood with all of you," said Daly.

Ruth Werner accepted the Charles Atherton Award for "exceptional service by a dedicated public-sector professional for outstanding work preserving and protecting historic Georgetown." Werner is a key representative to Georgetown from Councilman Jack Evans office.

Nancy Taylor Bubes received the Martin-Davidson Award for her "significant contributions to the community."

As she accepted the award, Taylor Bubes said emphatically, "I love Georgetown."
