Patch Picks: Mardi Gras Festivities Around Town

People the world over are celebrating on Fat Tuesday; Georgetown is no exception!

Break out the masks, beads and your best purple, green and gold attire. Today, the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday, marks Mardi Gras, Fat Tuesday or Fasch Nacht Day, depending on your traditions. This is the last day for people to celebrate before fasting during the upcoming Lent season.

Though Mardi Gras is more commonly known for the festivities in New Orleans, Louisiana with the high energy, custom jazz music, vibrant colors, lavish parades, and delicious foods, there are celebrations taking place right here in Georgetown.

  • Bayou: Fat Tuesday at Bayou is guaranteed to get you in the spirit of things. Enjoy New Orlean's inspired food, DRINKS and live jazz music!
  • L2 Lounge: The "Mardi Paws" fashion fundraiser benefits the Washington Humane Society. Tickets are $20 at the door.
  • Garrett’s Restaurant and Railroad Tavern: Check out some of the drink specials that will be offered.
  • Rumors: Just outside of Georgetown at 1900 M Street, this restaurant constructed its very own Bourbon St. for Fat Tuesday!
  • Clarendon Courthouse Mardi Gras + St. Patrick's Day Parade: Get two for one! March 8 at 8 p.m. The route is along Wilson Boulevard – from N Barton Street to N Irving Street.
