Save the Date: Cheers for Children at Cafe Milano

Tickets are still available for a fundraiser Oct. 29 to benefit First Star.

Cheers for Children is Friday Oct. 29 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Cafe Milano in Georgetown. The benefit will raise funds for First Star and its new Foster Youth Academy Program in Greater D.C.

The event organizers and supporters, including Georgetowner Cherie Jones, hope to bridge a funding gap for the brand new Georgetown D.C. Foster Youth Academy. First Star needs to raise at least $100,000 more to support the academy, which is estimated to cost some $330,000 each year.

The academy will guide 30 D.C. area foster children through high school and put them on the path for college. The children, selected this fall, will attend school at a local university partner this coming summer where they will take courses on campus and learn life skills like nutrition, cooking, study skills and more.
