Shadowy Moves Overnight

Perhaps the constant of Georgetown retail is change, as this week signs come and go in the middle of the night.

Last week was stressful.  Whether you are a federal employee or not, everything seemed fluid and unreliable including: garbage pick-up, paychecks, libraries, etc.

A set of red and black signs seemed to crop up over night saying "Don't Tread on D.C."  They appeared in tree boxes  and on median strips and everywhere else you can think of.  They materialized over the weekend with no notice or clues.  The organization behind the signs is www.dcvote.org.

They are incensed about the DC "" in this weekend's 2011 federal budget and urged D.C. residents to demonstrate Monday April 11. If you haven't heard how that turned out, .

Less benign, but also quick was the end of  and Morso Express on M Street.  After months renovating the space, their departure was quick and had little fanfare.

Also announcing a hurried closing sale is on M Street near . This beautiful and unique clothing store has lost their lease and are leaving the end of April. All merchandise will be sold at discounts beginning at about 30 percent

Finally, the  costmetics store is gone but a sign has appeared announcing the future location of Rag and Bone.
