We asked the (local) experts for their go-to spots in Georgetown.

The 2011 annual Independence Day Celebration fireworks display draws thousands to the National Mall. If you want to stay local, avoid the tourists and still catch the show, we've got a few great suggestions for where to take your blanket for the evening.

-: For those in the West Village, wander over to the small park by the Key Bridge or the pedestrian path on the bridge. There you can take in the flashes of color whilst standing, suspended in mid-air.

-: Watch the fireworks from the Kennedy Center Terrace where you'll have great views of the monuments; no tickets required!
