Trying to Avoid Midday Traffic? Note: Partial Closures Through Tuesday on I-395 and 4th Street SW

Lookout for traffic controls, and don't run over inspectors, the District Department of Transportation said.

The District Department of Transportation has closed one lane on the Southwest Freeway stretch of I-395 on the eastbound side, as well as parts of 4th Street SW, for a bridge and tunnel safety inspection that is scheduled to continue until Tuesday afternoon.

The inspection will be conducted from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days, and the lane closures will alternate, DDOT said in an announcement.

I-395 will be fully open all day Tuesday when the department moves on to both the northbound and southbound sides of 4th Street SW, the announcement said.

DDOT advised drivers to "stay alert while traveling through these locations" and to watch out for the inspectors.

"Traffic controls will be in place to warn motorists as they approach the areas," the announcement said.

A section of Canal Road will also be closed Tuesday. Find times and an alternate route here
