WEATHER ALERT: Timeline for Snow Storm, Virginia and Metro Washington, DC

Snow and slippery roads for morning commute.

The National Weather Service has upgraded its storm watch to a winter storm warning for most of Virginia and the Washington, DC metro area, with 3 to 6 inches of snow making for a miserable and dangerous morning commute.

The warning is in effect from 7 p.m. Sunday until 2 p.m. Monday.

The forecast calls for a mx of rain and snow early Sunday evening, changing to snow by mid evening. Snow is forecast to continue overnight through early afternoon.

The heaviest snow is expected after midnight and through early Monday morning. Temperatures are expected to drop to the mid to upper 20s late Sunday.

The weather service warns roads will become snow covered and slippery, especially through the morning rush hour.
