Weekend Guide: Georgetown Garden Tour, EU Open House and More

The weekend is here! How are you going to spend it in Georgetown and beyond?

1. 2013 Georgetown Garden Tour

When/Where: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, start at Christ Church, 31st and O Streets NW.

Why Go: Celebrating its 85th year, the Georgetown Garden Tour is a Georgetown tradition. Thanks to the Georgetown Garden Club, visitors have the chance to explore Georgetown's private gardens and hidden landscapes.

When/Where: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Hardy Middle School
parking lot.

Why Go: Opening day features a visit from the Lobster Roll Truck, music by Snakehead Run, a free bike clinic, facepainting and more. Pick up veggies for your Mother's Day dinner or flowers and herbs for your garden. 

Price: Free to attend.

When/Where: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at participating embassies. The Royal Netherlands Embassy is located at 4200 Linnean Ave. NW.

Why Go: Participating EU countries open their embassies or residences for guests to explore and learn more about each country's unique culture. For the first time, the Royal Netherlands Embassy will open its doors; previously only the residence of the Dutch Ambassador was open to the public. Price: Free to attend.

4. Cathedral Choral Society’s A Royal Occasion: The Music of Handel

When/Where: 4 p.m. Sunday at the Washington National Cathedral, 3101 Wisconsin Ave., NW.

Why Go: The Cathedral Choral Society commemorates the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II as it presents A Royal Occasion: The Music of George Frideric Handel.

Price: Ticket prices start at $31.

5. Volunteer at Dumbarton Oaks Park Cleanup Event

When/Where: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday in accessible from Lovers Lane, between Dumbarton Oaks and Montrose Park on R Street.

Why Go: This cleanup and invasive species removal event is part of on ongoing effort to free the park of invasive weed plants and to help the naturalistic garden return to its original glory. Read more about Dumbarton Oaks Park.
