1. Arlington Home Show and Garden Expo
When/Where: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Thomas Jefferson Community Center, 3501 Second St. S., Arlington.

Why Go: Homeowners can get advice and ideas from one of more than 70 specialists participating, including county staff from inspection services, zoning and code enforcement, and the Green Home Choice Program

When/Where: 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Sequoia on the Georgetown Waterfront, 3000 K St. NW, Washington.
Why Go: The Annual Hyde-Addison gala and auction is the Georgetown elementary school's largest fundraiser. The cruise-themed gala will include dancing, food and auction items.
Price: $50 per person, buy tickets here.
When/Where: 1 to 9 p.m. on Saturday; Pick up wrist bands between 1 and 5 p.m. at Mad Rose Tavern or Velocity Five.
Why Go: In advance of St. Patrick’s Day, visit top Clarendon-Courthouse area bars including Whitlow’s on Wilson, Wilson Tavern and Arlington Rooftop Bar & Grill. See this website for more info.

4. Trunk Shows at Carine's Bridal and Everard's
When/Where: Carine's (1726 Wisconsin Ave. NW, Washington): 11 am to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday; Everard's (1802 Wisconsin Ave. NW, Washington) 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
Why Go: Two different boutiques offer special access to designers items. At Carine's you will find Liancarlo's Fall 2013 line of bridal gowns. At Everards you will discover the latest designs from American designers Allen Edmonds, Yoana Baraschi and Hickey Freeman.
Price: Free to attend. RSVP required for Carine's.
5. 'My Son Pinocchio' by Mount Vernon Community Children’s Theater
When/Where: Fridays and Saturdays, March 8, 9, 15 and 16 at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays, March 10 and 17 at 3 p.m. at Bryant Alternative High School, 2709 Popkins Lane, Alexandria.
Why Go: Pinocchio, the Blue Fairy and other characters — along with Geppetto — go off in search of the formula for the "perfect child."
Price: Tickets cost $10 in advance and $12 at the door.
