Georgetown Artists' Work on Exhibit at the House of Sweden

The 4th Annual Georgetown Art Show is Feb. 7-10 at the House of Sweden.

The Citizens Association of Georgetown is hosting its 4th Annual Georgetown Art show at the House of Sweden, 2900 K St. NW, this week. The show runs Thursday through Sunday at the House of Sweden on the Georgetown waterfront.

The curated show features the work of both Georgetown residents who are artists and artists who have studios in Georgetown. The art work is in a range of media, including oil and watercolor paintings, prints, sculpture and photography.

Participating artist Sidney Lawrence—whose archival digital print of a thin-line ink drawing of a D.C. cityscape is on display at the Georgetown Library—told Patch it is "no surprise" that so many artists call Georgetown home in one way or another.

"What is surprising is the variety of styles, the dedication of the artists, and array of 'types' of individuals who feel compelled to make art," Lawrence told Patch in an email.

The opening reception is Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. And the free, public exhibit is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily Friday through Sunday. Families with children are welcome.

Lawrence said he submitted three pieces to the exhibit: two mixed-media narrative reliefs of ocean surfaces and a line-drawing panorama of Stockholm.

He described his mixed-media pieces as "very turgid and blue."

And the Stockholm panorama he hopes will catch the eye of any Swedes who pass through the exhibit.

"I made this drawing to after a trip to Sweden a few years ago, never guessing there would be an opportunity to show it in the country's Washington showcase," he explained.

According to a news release, there will be a “Saturday Salon” at 2 p.m. "when chosen artists will discuss their art pieces, inspiration and other life experiences."

Additionally, Sunday the event's curator will offer a walk-through of artwork beginning at 2 p.m.

Most work is available for purchase.
