Elmo and Grover stopped in  at the Medstar Georgetown University Hospital pediatric ward on Wednesday.

There, the duo "brought smiles to some amazing children," said the Sesame Street Live Facebook page.

The two characters visited about 15 children from toddlers to teenagers, visiting with each one and posing for pictures, said Sheila Francis, a spokesperson for the event.

The stop was made on their way to the George Mason University Patriot Center in Fairfax, Va. where they will be performing in Sesame Street Live's "Make a New Friend" Thursday through Sunday.

Tickets to the performance are $18 to $75 and can be purchased at the Patriot Center box office, by calling 1 (800) 745-3000 or online. For more information visit Sesame Street Live's website
