Consider Your Lighting

Do you often walk into a room and wish it was a bit brighter?

Do you often walk into a room and wish it was a bit brighter? I think most people live in semi-darkness and perhaps it’s because they really don’t want to see what their spaces look like or they haven’t considered this element. When I walk into many homes, I realize how dimly lit most people keep them. In your home, try this quick assessment: walk from room to room some evening and take note of your lighting situation. How do the rooms look and feel?

Lighting plays an important role in any room: it can create atmosphere, give meaning to a space, highlight something special or just be pretty and make you feel good. Lighting should always be matched with the functions of the room. For example, in a family room, many activities take place and the lighting should support and enhance each activity. There should be proper lighting for reading, dimmer lighting for watching a movie and good general lighting for entertaining. Sometimes, lighting can be combined to meet all of your needs in certain rooms and it should always be balanced to avoid extremely bright or dark spots.

It’s important to note that lighting doesn’t need to be very expensive, but good lighting is a necessity in most rooms. A simple lighting consultation can make all the difference and take your home out of the dark and into the light!
