After Fire, Georgetown Auto Continues to Serve Community Through Alexandria Location

is still providing auto repair and maintenance, just not in Georgetown for now. The auto shop was the of the at 1576 Wisconsin Ave. Tuesday when fumes from the shop came into contact with a space heater and ignited. No one was injured in the fire and the employees from the Georgetown location are now hard at work in Alexandria.

Bobby Gonzalez, the owner of Georgetown Auto Service, has owned the Georgetown location since 2003. He also runs a shop in Alexandria, "just six miles away" as he said in a conversation with Patch Friday. The shop at 418 East Raymond Ave. is in the Potomac Yards area, near the Target on Jefferson Davis Highway.

Gonzalez said he will be running a shuttle for Georgetown and other Northwest D.C. clients to and from the Alexandria location. He is also offering full valet pick up and drop off. Gonzalez said he lives in Northwest, so it is easy enough for him to stop by your home, pick up your car, take it to his shop and bring it back once it is ready.

The shop owner said he received great support from the community after the blaze. "Everybody was calling all day," he said, even one of his clients who is a member of Congress called to see how Gonzalez was doing.

After "briefly talking to the landlord" Gonzalez said the estimate for a rebuilt station could be "easily eight months," but "obviously we will come back" to Georgetown.
