Billy Reid Coming to Georgetown (Again)

After 2011 plans never materialized, Billy Reid is coming to Georgetown this spring.

Billy Reid, an American luxury retail brand, is opening a store at 3211 M St. NW, the former Uno Chicago Grill space. They hope to open by the end of April.

"We are thrilled to be joining the neighborhood and look forward to becoming a part of the community on M street," Sarah Trapp, a spokeswoman for the company, said in an email to Patch Friday.

Billy Reid had previously planned to bring a retail store to Georgetown at 3213 M St. NW, the home of Riccardi of Georgetown, in 2011, but it never materialized.

Last week DC Curbed posted a photo of a "Coming Soon" sign on the new M Street space.

In March 2011, The Washington Post reported on the concept for the Georgetown store, which had been expected to open in May of that year:

"The establisment will reflect the Southern roots of the designer, and incorporate re-claimed materials from the South, along with antiques. There are also plans to have the retail space hold live performances and evening affairs, which is a signature in all of Reid’s establishments."

In December of 2011 TBD.com reported that the Reid deal fell through for the 3213 M St. NW, space because of "legal issues between landlord and tenant."

Now the Georgetown Business Improvement District website lists the 3211 M St. NW store as "coming sooon."

"We plan to have the doors open for folks there by the end of April," Trapp said.
