Bonobos Georgetown Guide Shops Opens Today

Bonobos, an online menswear retailer, opens its first permanent DC area Guideshop Tuesday at 3320 Cady’s Alley.

When a man walks into the Bonobos Guideshop in Georgetown's Cady's Alley, he's supposed to feel like he's at home in his rustic loft apartment with leather lounge chairs, old traveling trunks and all.

The new Guideshop concept allows customers to book complimentary appointments to explore the merchandise and get fitted by a store professional.

A retail store, however, it is not. At the end of a visit, the customer can purchase a variety of colors or sizes of items seen in the store, but does so online. The items will be shipped to the desired address promptly.

Bonobos considers the shops its newest level of customer service offered by what has previously been an online-only menswear line, according to one of its public relations reps Gina DiPietro.

The whole line is supposed to offer "classics in a modern silhouette," DiPietro explained.

The chinos are soft and fitted to curve like a man's waist.

The shirts "elminate billowing muffin top," she joked, adding that the fit is somewhere between European and American.

They have a more work-appropriate non-iron cotton slacks too, their "Weekday Warriors," which literally have a day of the week stitched into the waistline. Wednesday is tan, Monday is blue, and so on.

The Bonobos Guides, the experts who work in the store, become a personal shopper for the clients who come in for appointments.

They help with fit, let you know when something is too loose or too snug and will even be on call months later to offer style advice via email. For the fashionably-impaired, this means you have someone on call to tell you if you can wear that tie with that shirt or if those pants work with brown shoes.
