Christ Church Thrift Shop Reopens

Thrift shop offers a variety of treasures for real steals, weekly on Wednesdays.

After a summer hiatus, this week Christ Church Thrift Shop has opened its doors. For over 50 years it has provided the community with affordable, unique finds--thrilling for anyone who enjoys rummaging for treasures.

The small shop opts out of having clutter and nicely displays books and book ends, jewelry, ceramics, silver, purses, fine kitchenware and other decorative knickknacks. Clothes, even designer brands, are very modestly priced and typically priced from 50 cents to $50. For real steals, be sure to check out the $1 and $3 racks.

A quick browsing of the clothing proved that a patron can score a pair of lovely Ferragamo shoes for $25, or a St. John dress for $10. The shop appreciates the regular donators who supply them with these couture pieces. During my visit with Cherie, I ended up finding just what I needed for autumn: a cream colored cashmere sweater with subtle, glitzy embellishments and a warm, mink collar.

The store averages $200 in sales per hour, and whatever cannot be sold is donated to Bread for the City, American Rescue Workers, or Barton Chapel Congregational Church in Robbins, Tennessee.

"Beggars can't be choosers," remarked Cherie Cannon, the store's manager, but she said the shop does prefer clothing to be dry cleaned and on hangers when donated. They particularly ask that you not donate large pieces of furniture or electronics.
