Dog Tag Bakery Coming to Grace and Bamboo Space

The non-profit operation will provide training and support for veterans with a service-connected disability.

Dog Tag Bakery will be opening a non-profit bakery cum veteran training and support center at 3206 Grace St. NW, the former home of Grace and Bamboo.

Readers may recall that the site received a stop work order in May for work being done without proper permits. Permits have since been issued.

The 4,200 square foot bakery will be partnered with a specialized curriculum at the Georgetown University's School of Continuing Studies.

Revamp has the details:

"Once remodeled, Dog Tag Bakery will boast its own cafe and retail space (both dog biscuits and 'other human foods' will be sold), a production/baking area, a training and meeting room, and office space from which the business will be managed."

The program at Georgetown University will help veterans translate their skills into a job in the commercial section by preparing them to apply for, interview for and obtain jobs in the private sector.

According to the Dog Tag Bakery non-profit website:

"Classes will cover small business management, entrepreneurship and personal development, which will teach marketable skills for the future, along with personal counseling, career planning, and leadership coaching...".

Revamp reports the bakery will open in 2014.
