Drybar is opening Friday in Georgetown and Bethesda, and along with it comes a 13-foot blow-dryer.
Yes. A 13-foot, yellow, operating blow-dryer will be sitting outside the streets of Bethesda to advertise the new business, a blowout-only salon.
Drybar offers the blowout service, including a wash, for $40—less than at many typical salons, where the service can start at $55. The $40 flat fee applies to all hair types and lengths, Patch reported in June.
"Drybar is a 'blow dry bar' concept created around a very simple idea: No cuts. No color. Just blowouts," according to the salon chain's Facebook page.
The new Georgetown store will open Friday at 1825 Wisconsin Ave. NW next to Safeway.
Those pedestrians and drivers who may be irritated by the store's accompanying 13-foot obstruction, named Buttercup, may be consoled to know that:
1.) The first 10 people to spot Buttercup as it moves throughout D.C. and post a photo to Facebook or Twitter with the hashtag #DrybarInDC will receive a free blowout from Drybar, according to a press release.
2.) It's art and will be appearing at the Bethesda Row Arts Festival, and
Buttercup will show up in area during the following dates and times:

"They've been training so they had a few call outs on Facebook and Twitter, but first appointments start Friday," said publicist Barbara Martin, putting rumors to rest about a soft opening before Friday's celebration.
To celebrate the no-color, no-cut, blowout-only salon opening, Bethesda's Georgetown Cupcake will offer free Drybar cupcakes to customers on opening day, Martin said.
