EastBanc, Inc. Closes on $1.9 Million Post Office Purchase

The building at 1215 31st St., NW is currently occupied by the U.S. Postal Service.

Georgetown-based EastBanc, Inc. closed earlier in July on its $1.9 million purchase of the old post office building  at 1215 31st St., NW where the developer will build a commercial property, according to the Washington Business Journal.

The United States Postal Service will retain its operations at the front of the building, but a non-historic addition and the rear undeveloped portion of the property will become an EastBanc commercial development.

The new building will be almost entire below-ground as seen from 31st Street but the south side of the structure will be visible from the parking lot at the rear because the project is being dug into a hill.

The only part of the project that will be above ground will be adaptive re-use of a 1915 addition at the rear of the original 1856 building.

Permits were issued for a renovation of the property as recently as June.
