Fashion's Night Out Turns Georgetown Into D.C.'s 'Style District'

More than 50 shops and restaurants will open their doors from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday to shoppers and fashionistas as part of Georgetown's first ever Fashion's Night Out. The event, which began last year in New York, brings together the fashionable and those who cater to them to celebrate fashion and give the industry an economic boost. The Georgetown event will also raise funds for a local charity while highlighting the role of fashion in the District.

Jim Braco, executive director of the Georgetown Business Improvement District (BID), described Georgetown as D.C.'s "style district." To maintain that status, the BID entered Georgetown to be the regional host for Fashion's Night Out, joining 12 other cities around the world.

The event will give shoppers an opportunity to sip champagne as they browse new collections and get a few bargains in the process. The BID is offering free pedicab service to transport participants to shops and restaurants; just show a receipt from one of the participating locations. Vitamin Water is hosting a free "hydration lounge" at Dean and Deluca where shoppers can refresh between expeditions.

Patrons can purchase eco-friendly tote bags from participating stores for $10, which will help to carry their loot and benefit a local charity. The proceeds will go to Labels for Love to support efforts to raise awareness of children's and women's organizations. 

As if shopping, charity and fashion were not enough, Cirque du Soleil will be in town and a group of performers will flutter around Georgetown during the fashion event.
