Georgetown Leavey Center Food Vendor Owes DC $500,000

The owner of the Subway, KFC, Taco Bell and Pizza Hut at the Georgetown University Leavey Center owes DC back taxes.

Yasmin Parveen, who operates several restaurants in the Georgetown University Leavey Center, had nine of his food operations closed by the District Government Thursday over a reported $500,000 owed in back taxes.

Parveen owns the Subway, KFC, Taco Bell and Pizza Hut that had been in the Leavey Center, though all but the Subway were nixed as part of a student-supported effort to add more diverse and quality food options on campus.

In their place will be Elevation Burger, Salad Creations and "a new and better Subway," according to a June 21 notice from Debby Morey, associate vice president and chief business officer for University Services.

Parveen's on-campus restaurants were already closed as of June 22 for construction to install the new food establishments.

It is unclear if any of the new options or the improved Subway will be operated by Parveen.

According to The Washington Business Journal, Parveen's other restaurants owned shuttered for back taxes are:

  • Subway: 2001 14th St. NW (14th and U streets)
  • Dunkin' Donuts: 2001 14th St. NW
  • Subway: 2301-B Georgia Ave. NW
  • Subway: 2861 Alabama Ave. SE
  • Subway: 3950 Minnesota Ave. NE
