Georgetown Sees Boom in Upgraded and New Hotels

Between the Capella Georgetown and upgrades at Hotel Monticello, tourists will have several high-end options for staying in Georgetown soon.

The hotel market in Georgetown has seen some turnover lately, and the new owners have big plans to redesign and reinvigorate their properties, many in time for the 2013 inauguration.

The 58-room recently changed hands, according to USA Today Travel. The new owners, Mast Capital, have hired architecture firm BBG-BBGM to design the upgrades for the boutique hotel on Thomas Jefferson Street.

Mast CEO Camilo Miguel, Jr., told USA Today that the goal is to completely renovate the space by the end of 2012 to be ready for the inauguration in January 2013.

Nearby, the planned 49-room is under way. The new hotel will emerge from the makeover of an existing five-story, freestanding commercial building on 31st Street, next to the . That hotel is also planned to be ready by the inauguration.

Not far away on Wisconsin Avenue, the for a reported $34.6 million. The owners have plans to renovate that space, too, though the timeline is less clear.
