Georgetown Waterfront Ice Skating Rink Becoming a Reality

The Washington Harbour is undergoing construction and improvements that should wrap up by the end of 2012.

The Washington Harbour will feature an ice skating rink and fully-renovated waterfront restaurants once construction, currently underway, wraps up in the end of 2012. The new rink should be ready for winter 2013.

Even before at the Washington Harbour complex last April, MRP Realty had plans to renovate the space at 3000 and 3050 K Street. , the proposed ice skating rink garnered approval in October. Now MRP and Rockpoint Group announced that construction is underway on the $20 million exterior renovation.

During the winter months the fountain area will be converted into a 12,000 square-foot, waterfront, skating rink. During warmer months it will feature a water show that changes from day to night, according to a press release from MRP.

In November, both and  signed a new 15-year contract with MRP Realty and will continue their long tradition of waterfront restaurant and bar service.

The two restaurants, both severely affected by the flooding last April, should be fully-renovated and re-opened in summer 2012, but will continue to offer throughout construction.

The exterior project architect is Gensler and Clark Construction is the general contractor.
