Sweetgreen at 3333 M St. NW was closed by the DC Department of Health Monday afternoon.

Update Aug. 21 Georgetown Sweetgreen Re-Opened Wednesday

Updated 4:36 p.m. Aug. 20

The Georgetown sweetgreen was closed Monday night and Tuesday following an inspection by the DC Department of Health (DOH). An orange paper posted on the door at 3333 M St. NW from the DOH states that the business was closed by the department for violations of the food code.

The company's official Twitter feed made no mention of any code violations," rather it said the Georgetown location was closed for "renovations".

"Hey georgetown - we will remain closed today for renovations," the company wrote in a tweet

Sweetgreen released the following statement to Patch Tuesday afternoon:

"sweetgreen Georgetown has been temporarily closed for a couple of days as we await the renewal of our business license as well as the addition of a sink in our service area. We expect to be open in the next few days. We apologize for any inconvenience and hope that you will visit our other locations until we reopen."

DOH did not return multiple requests for comment.

Patch will provide an update when additional information is available.
