Max's Ice Cream Preparing for the 2013 Season

The Glover Park favorite will start making ice cream in the next few days.

Max Keshani is already thinking about ice cream. He was getting organized in his Glover Park store, Max's Best Ice Cream, Wednesday afternoon when Patch happened to walk by.

His shop at 2416 Wisconsin Ave. NW is a neighborhood favorite. In the 10 minutes Patch was there, a woman popped her head in to see if he had ice cream and another neighbor waved hello as he walked by.

Keshani makes his ice cream himself and told Patch he was  hoping to start making his first creamy gallons in the next few days. It is March now, afterall.

He said he might start opening for a few hours at a time on the weekends during the first part of March, before he transitions into his normal business hours.

It all depends on the weather.

"The weather is my best friend and worst enemy," Keshani said.

Last year he had another enemy: The "mess" of construction for the Glover Park Streetscape was hard on his seasonal business, said Keshani.

"Hopefully this year will be better than last year," Keshani said.

He looks forward to seeing his "loyal" customers return in droves this summer.

If you walk by Max's next weekend and the weather is right, you might be lucky enough to get a cone of his homemade ice cream. And remember, it's cash only.

Max's Best Ice Cream is located at 2416 Wisconsin Ave. NW, Washington, DC. It's normal seasonal business hours are: noon to 10 p.m. weekdays and noon to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
