Reddz Trading Moving into Monarc Rugs Space

Reddz owner Wendy Red used to own Commander Salamander and Up Against the Wall in Georgetown.

Reddz Trading, a high-end fashion resale store, is coming to 1413 Wisconsin Ave. NW, which is currently occupied by Monarc Antique Rugs.

This is Reddz's second DC-area location; their first store is located in Bethesda, Md.

Wendy Red, the owner of Reddz, told Patch that she hopes to open her Georgetown shop some time in June.

Earlier this year Monarc announced it was going out of business and will close at the end of March.

Red said she decided to open a shop in Georgetown because many of her customers come out to Bethesda from DC.

"We also just feel like there’s a void there," Red said.

Unlike consignment shops, Red's resale model means you get paid up front for handing over your high-end bags or shoes. Reddz accepts clothes that are no older than two years, are in good condition and are in style.

Their website explains the payment model:

"We pick the desirable items that we think we can sell, We give you 30 percent of the initial price that we set for your items. Take the trade option, and you get a Trade Card (identical to a gift card). If you elect to take the Trade card you get 45 percent of what we price your items at. Trade Cards can be used at any time that day or in the future."

Red explained she was already familiar with Georgetown's retail scene, having formerly owned Commander Salamander and Up Against the Wall.

"I thought Georgetown would be a great location," Red explained.

When she learned that the Monarc Antique Rugs space, next to Appalachian Springs, was available she went for it.

"I loved it," she said about her future store location.
