Saxbys Crowdsourcing for New Georgetown Photo Collage

Your photo could become a permanent fixture at the Georgetown Saxbys Coffee shop.

Saxbys Coffee shop, 1332 35th St. NW, in Georgetown wants its fans and customers to submit photos of their favorite Georgetown spots and experiences to potentially be part of a photo collage that will decorate a wall of the store. Now through March 18 you can post a photo to Instagram and tag it as "#IAmSaxbysGeorgetown" to enter.

Nick Bayer, president and founder of Saxbys, told Patch that since the beginning he has wanted each location to have a unique design and feel to it. The Georgetown store near the Georgetown University campus was one of the first few franchises the Bayer opened.

Under new ownership, the store recently added a toppings bar where customers can add toppings to their frozen yogurt or morning oatmeal. The new wall next to the toppings bar will soon be the home of a collage of photos submitted through the March contest.

The photo contest "Allows our customers to be part of a creation of a mural that not only represents Saxbys, but the neighborhood and community, of which we are a part," Georgetown Saxbys Coffee franchisee, Jim Hilson, explained to Patch.

"Saxbys has asked fans to submit photos of their favorite Georgetown spots and where they enjoy Saxbys in their community, tagging the photo as #IAmSaxbysGeorgetown on Instagram.  Winning entries will be announced on the Saxbys Facebook Fan Page March 22 (for more information, fans can visit www.facebook.com/SaxbysCoffeeWorldwide)."

Though other locations have murals of the town on their walls, Georgetown will be the first crowd-sourced mural at a Saxbys location, according to Bayer.

Hilson said he is not sure how many photos will be selected to complete the collage. It will be professionally printed onto a mountable photo feature for the wall, which is about seven feet high and four-and-a-half feet wide.

"The best and most successful businesses these days are getting their customers involved in the business using social media. And the reason that it will work very well for this project is because we really want the mural to represent our customers and the neighborhood," Hilson said.
