Sisters Open Duo Boutique on Wisconsin Avenue

Sisters Kyle and Elizabeth Barber celebrated the grand opening of duo last weekend.

Duo, the newest boutique to grace the Book Hill area of Wisconsin Avenue, celebrated its grand opening Feb. 11. The boutique offers a variety of women's clothing and hand-made jewelry.

Kyle Barber told Patch in an email that she and her sister, Elizabeth, chose Georgetown for their first store because of the neighborhood's "vibrancy and energy, and of course foot traffic." Book Hill was the perfect choice for its "great neighborhood feel" and the variety of shops nearby to attract shoppers and browsers.

Barber told Patch that they signed the lease for the shop just a month ago, but got to work quickly, painting, decorating and snagging clothes from their favorite designers to offer in store. Their designer fashion includes items from Amanda Uprichard, lucca couture, dolce vita and Line & Dot, among others.

Additionally, Kyle offers unique items from her personal jewelry line, Hippie Chic. She goes to bead shows in D.C. several times a year to find uncommon items for her line and said she cannot help stopping in bead shops wherever she travels. She even incorporates vintage items into her pieces.

"I hope to do beading and craft parties and artist showings for local undiscovered talent, stuff that gets the neighborhood involved," said Barber.

Running a business together has been a goal for these sisters since they were "little" explained Barber.

"The goal is to create a space that is fun and inviting and constantly changing, the kind of store that every time you walk by you pop in just to see what is new," wrote Barber.

Duo is located at 1624 Wisconsin Ave. NW.
