Streets of Georgetown to Close in January

The high-end menswear store opened in Georgetown November 2011.

Streets of Georgetown will close in January, just a little over a year after it opened at 1254 Wisconsin Ave. NW. The store first opened in Georgetown in November 2011.

Michael A. Jackson, a manager at the Georgetown store, told Patch that Streets of Georgetown would be closing the second week of January because of the "financial situation" of its parent company.

HMX Acquisition Corp., the parent company behind the Streets stores, filed for bankruptcy in October.

Streets offered many of HMX Group's brands — including Hickey Freeman, Hart Schaffner Marx and Bobby Jones, Exclusively Misook, Coppley and Christopher Blue — under one roof.

Passersby may have noted the top-hat-clad doorman often stationed at the store front.

According to the Wall Street Journal, this the second time HMX Group has filed for bankruptcy, having done so previously in 2009. WSJ reports that HMX hopes to sell itself in bankruptcy to Authentic Brands Group.
