Sushiko Smacked with Tax Lien in Glover Park

Sushiko—which operates sushi restaurants in Glover Park and Friendship Heights—owes the IRS more than $840,000 in back taxes on its D.C. location.

Glover Park's swanky sushi restaurant owes the IRS more than $840,000 in back taxes, according to The Washington Post. The Friendship Heights location may be in the clear.

Sushiko co-owner Daisuke Utagawa told The Post that the lien was for federal business income taxes.

"It’s actually a long, long story,” he told The Post. “At the moment, I’d really rather not talk about it.”

Sushiko's Glover Park location opened in 1976 as D.C.'s first sushi restaurant, according to The Post. The Chevy Chase location opened in 2008.

This is not Sushiko's first tax debt, though. In 2010, the state of Maryland filed a lien against the Chevy Chase location for $19,568 in back taxes. A year later, the state filed another lien—for $29,836—against that Sushiko location, according to The Post.

Both liens have been resolved, Utagawa told The Post.
