Bass, Berry & Sims Continues Growth in Washington, D.C. Office with Three Attorneys

Ronald Sigworth, Bryan King and Robert Platt join Bass, Berry & Sims' growing office in Washington, D.C.

Past Chair of the Intellectual Property Section of the Bar Association of D.C. Joins as Partner  

Washington, D.C. (July 24, 2014) – Bass, Berry & Sims PLC is pleased to announce the continued expansion of the firm’s Washington, D.C. office with the addition of three new attorneys: member Ronald Sigworth and associates Bryan King and Robert Platt. Sigworth joins the firm’s Intellectual Property Practice Group, Platt practices in the firm’s Compliance and Government Investigations Practice Group, and King bolsters the firm’s Government Contracts Practice Group, which launched in early 2014.

Sigworth focuses his practice on protecting clients’ valuable intellectual property rights in complex litigation. He has significant trial experience before juries in federal courts and arbitration tribunals. He has experience guiding multinational corporations and manufacturers in a variety of technologies through claims related to patent, trademark and copyright infringement matters; trade secrets, unfair competition and breach of contracts. He also counsels clients on all aspects of patent prosecution and enforcement. As a former senior engineer at a major aircraft technologies manufacturer designing jet engines and rockets, he is experienced with the patent prosecution process from the inventor side, as well. He is immediate past chair of the Intellectual Property Section of the Bar Association of the District of Columbia. He earned his undergraduate degree in engineering from the University of Virginia and his law degree from the Columbus School of Law at the Catholic University of America, where he also served as an adjunct law professor teaching courses on patent law.

King focuses his practice on federal contracting matters, including handling all aspects of bid protests, size and status protests, and appeals for contractors before the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, Government Accountability Office (GAO), the Civilian and Armed Services Boards of Contract Appeals, and the Small Business Administration (SBA) Office of Hearings and Appeals. King also counsels clients on various small business programs, including the HUBZone, 8(a), Women-Owned, and Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned SBA programs. He earned his undergraduate degree from Louisiana State University and his law degree from George Washington University Law School.

Platt represents clients in government and internal investigations involving various government enforcement agencies, including the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), U.S. Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (HHS-OIG), and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Platt’s previous experience as a legal extern in the Office of Counsel to the Inspector General of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services provides him with a unique perspective in helping to navigate clients through enforcement proceedings from government entities. He earned his undergraduate degree, law degree and a master’s degree in public health from George Washington University.
