Carl Knutson Returns to Perkins+Will to Serve as Architectural Design Director and a Principal of the Firm's Washington, D.C. Office

WASHINGTON, D.C. (March 3, 2014) – Global architecture and design firm Perkins+Will announces today that it has named Carl Knutson, AIA, LEED AP, the Architectural Design Director as well as a principal of the firm’s Washington, D.C. office.

Knutson will lead design efforts for Perkins+Will in the Washington metropolitan area and focus on client engagement, innovation, project delivery and staff development, while working closely with Managing Director Steve Manlove, AIA, LEED AP, Interiors Design Director Ken Wilson, FAIA, FIIDA, LEED Fellow, and Senior Architectural Designer Michael Day.

“We are thrilled that Carl Knutson, an extremely talented designer, is joining our team,” Manlove says. “His diverse experience and project expertise are incredibly valuable. Carl’s design leadership will allow us to expand our strong client relationships and grow our project portfolio. He is a client-focused, pragmatic, smart and thoughtful professional who measures his own success more by the accomplishments of others than by personal accolades. Carl fits perfectly into our culture and will undoubtedly serve as a great partner.”

Since 2012, Knutson has worked with Goettsch Partners, leading hospitality and mixed-use projects in the United States and China. His diverse and wide-ranging portfolio includes award-winning projects in the United States, Middle East, Africa and China. Knutson has worked on buildings and master-planning efforts across the globe in the government, health-care, higher education, hospitality and mixed-use sectors.

Knutson’s work includes the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Bogota, Colombia, and the Zhengzhou mixed-use development in Zhengzhou, China. Prior to working with Goettsch Partners, he spent eight years as an Associate Principal and Senior Project Designer working alongside Perkins+Will Global Design Director Ralph Johnson in Chicago.
