Cantor Colburn LLP, one of the country’s leading intellectual property (IP) law firms, announced today the hiring of Patrick S. Griffin as an Associate in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office in Alexandria, just a short distance from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.  Mr. Griffin has practiced in all aspects of intellectual property and now focuses primarily on patent application writing and prosecution for electrical and computer patents in computer architecture, electronic commerce, database and distributed computing, telecommunications, digital displays and optics, complex financial models, and related software. In addition to his patent procurement expertise, he specializes in freedom to operate opinions and strategic invention development consulting for key high technology areas.

Mr. Griffin cultivated his practical understanding of communicating engineering objectives in common language while studying Computer Engineering at Drexel University and working as network engineer for a leading petroleum and petrochemical manufacturer, where he designed enterprise and process control network infrastructures. After studying engineering, he broadened the application of his technology expertise during law school, and by studying east/west transactions, international IP, and international cyberlaw in Japan. In addition, Mr. Griffin’s strong link to the legal community manifests in his volunteer work as an American Mock Trial Association tournament judge, as well as his service as Vice President for the Cooley Law School Alumni Association Executive Committee.  He is admitted to the state bar of the state of Pennsylvania, the District of Columbia, to the Supreme Court and to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
