Evans Raises $40,000 on Nantucket

Former mayor Anthony Williams introduced Evans at a fundraiser on Nantucket.

Ward 2 Councilman Jack Evans, a 2014 mayoral candidate, raised about $40,000 in one fundraiser on Nantucket on Aug. 9, The Washington Post reports.

Evans, a Georgetown resident, held a fundraiser where many Washingtonians summer, on Nantucket.

Fellow Georgetowner, Bo Blair, was on the host committee, according to the Post. Blair owns Millie's restaurant in Nantucket in addition to his several DC area ventures, like Smith Point and Surf Side both on Wisconsin Avenue.

Former DC mayor Anthony Williams introduced Evans at the event, according the the Post: "Williams introduced Evans and praised his accomplishments as a longtime D.C. Council member, noting an improved bond rating and an increase in economic development."

Both the bond rating and Evans' role in the development in the District were key points in a recent poll his campaign conducted among cell phone users who are registered voters in DC.

Evans is one of several candidates hoping to win the mayoral primary in April 2014. Other candidates include fellow members of the District Council, Muriel Bowser (D-Ward 4) and Tommy Wells (D-Ward 6), among others. Mayor Vincent Gray has yet to announce his intentions, which remain in flux during an ongoing federal investigation into his 2010 campaign.
