C&O Canal Water to be Lowered Sunday

A five mile stretch from Fletchers Cove to Georgetown will be lowered, beginning Sunday, Aug. 14.

The Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park will lower the last five miles of the canal, including the Fletchers Cove and areas for two days, beginning Sunday.

The Park will lower the canal’s water level by several feet, while maintaining water flow and valuable fish habitat throughout this section of the canal.

The lower water level will allow DC Water to install a water line at their Fletcher’s Cove construction site, where they are building an odor abatement system and public restrooms.
