The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a coastal flood advisory for the Potomac River adjacent to DC and Alexandria, Va. for Wednesday night. There is also a flash flood watch in effect starting at 3 p.m. for the District of Columbia.
A cold front expected to move into the area will bring rain and possibly thunderstorms. NWS says the thunderstorms could produce damaging wind gusts and that urban areas will be more susceptible to flooding.
The Capital Weather Gang at The Washington Post expects the heavy showers and possible thunder to roll through the area from west to east sometime between 8 p.m. Wednesday and 4 a.m. Thursday.
Thursday will be cooler with highs in the mid 40s.
