DC Area Marks One Year Since Earthquake

Repairs continue after Aug. 23, 2011 event -- Where were you when it happened?

As residents reflect a year after a , there are still repairs to be done to some of the more notable structures impacted by the Aug. 23, 2011 quake.

The Washington Monument and repairs—and fundraising to pay for them—are just north of Georgetown.

I was taking a phone call and trying to refill my SmarTrip card on an upper Metro platform. I thought I just lost my balance (a common occurrence) when I fell into the machine. I assumed the vibrating floor was just a train coming into the station below. Then, the emails started.
