D.C. Snowfall Less Than One Inch

Less than an inch of snow will fall tonight, though travel could be tricky for points north. Expect much colder temperatures and high winds tomorrow.

Washington, D.C. and Northern Virginia can expect under an inch of snow tonight, beginning at around 10pm and lasting for a few hours, according to the National Weather Service. The snow should conclude well before the morning rush hour.

Fortunately, the freezing rain and extremely slippery conditions we saw from Monday night’s storm will stay clear of us. But travel in southern Maryland counties could get tricky as a mix of rain and snow is expected to fall there.

“We’re not expecting much from the storm,” said Heather Sheffield of the National Weather Service’s Sterling, Va. office, “There’s a low pressure system coming in from the west. The snow showers right now are in Indiana and Ohio, slowly moving east.”

More significant snowfall is expected in cities further north. Pittsburgh’s NWS winter weather advisory is calling for up to six inches. Baltimore is expecting one to three inches, while New York will see two to four.

Winds will pick up as the system moves out of the region tomorrow morning, with sustained speeds of 15-25mph and gusts of up to 35mph. Temperatures will also drop significantly over the next 24 hours, with tomorrows highs expected to be in the low 30s and tomorrow night’s lows in the low twenties or upper teens, according to NWS.
