The Georgetown DMV Location is Still Not a Sure Thing

Though city leaders have promised that the Department of Motor Vehicles will return to Georgetown, a representative for the Georgetown Park Mall made the agency's return seem a bit less certain at last month's ANC meeting. The Department of General Services told Patch they are still trying to negotiate a return to Georgetown. Ward 2 Councilman Jack Evans' office said they were "confident" an agreement would be reached.

NPS Emergency Call Boxes are Going the Way of the Payphone

The National Park Service will no longer use or maintain emergency call stations along the C&O Canal. Instead contact information signs will be posted for people to call from their personal cell phones. The move raises security concerns for some trail users, especially after a July sexual assault.

DC to Renew Jackson Art Center Lease After Sale was Considered

The Jackson Art Center is weighing signing a three-year lease renewal with the D.C. Department of General Services (DGS). Talks halted over the summer when an unnamed, unsolicited buyer came forward for the R Street property. The JAC would prefer a longer lease, as would nearby neighbors.

Patch will have more on this Monday and the center is on the Georgetown Advisory Neighborhood Commission agenda for the Oct. 1 meeting.
