Game 7 and Police Week Make for Busy Downtown Metro Stations

Two large events will crowd downtown metro stations simultaneously Monday night.

Monday night will be a crowded one at downtown DC metro stations. Just  as thousands of hockey fans converge on the Verizon Center in Chinatown, tens of thousands of law enforcement officers will gather blocks away for the 25th Annual Candlelight Vigil at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. Both events begin at 8 p.m.

The Verizon Center, 601 F Street NW, can be mostly easily accessed from the Chinatown (Red, Yellow and Green Lines) and Metro Center Stations (Red, Orange and Blue Lines).

Metro has worked out an agreement with the Verizon Center to provide extended rail service should the Capitals playoff game against the New York Rangers run later than 11 p.m.

"In the event that a Capitals playoff game is still in progress at 11 p.m. on a night when the rail system would normally close at midnight, Metro will provide an additional hour of service from Gallery Place, Judiciary Square and Metro Center stations," according to a Metro press release.

The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial, 400 block of E Street, NW, is a short walk from both the Archives (Green and Yellow Lines) and Judiciary Square (Red Line) metro stations.

According to Metro, the F Street entrance to Judiciary Square will close at 7 p.m. because of the law enforcement event.

Riders should use the entrance at 4th and D streets, NW. However, elevator service will not be available because the station's elevators are located at the F Street exit. Instead Metro urges customers in need of an elevator to use Gallery Place station, which is about one block farther than the F Street station.

If you are not attending either event, you may want to steer clear of downtown stations around 8 p.m.
