Gas Line and Water Main Repairs Clog O and P Streets

Just an hour after DC Water reported water main repairs on O Street Monday morning, another set of contractors reported a problem with a gas line on P Street.

D.C. Water crews closed the 3200 block of O Street during the late morning and early afternoon Monday as they worked to repair a leaking water main. Meanwhile on P Street, contractors wrapped up repairs on a gas line that was loose or poorly allinged and discoverd during construction.

The gas line was promptly repaired by Washington Gas and DC Water crews continue to work on the water mains as part of the O and P Street Construction project.

The O Street closure had traffic backing up on 33rd Street. P Street is one way heading west, meaning parents trying to get to were going in circles trying to access the school.

According Maurice Markos, the project manager on site for The Temple Group, the DC Water team had not notified his team on P Street that O Street was close, leading to a few traffic issues during the earlier half of the day Monday.

*The original post indicated that a gas line had been struck and leaked, however D.C. Water Officials said there was no leak; rather the line was not sufficiently secured so Washington Gas was called to make a repair.
