Georgetown Law Students Raise $4,000 for Cancer Research

During Movember, the Georgetown Facial Challenge group raised over $4,000 to benefit the Prostate Cancer Foundation and LIVESTRONG. They also grew some sweet facial hair in the process.

Over the course of November, Patch followed Steve Winstanley, a Georgetown University Law student, and his Movember efforts to create awareness about prostate cancer, raise funds for cancer research and grow an awesome mustache in the process.

Winstanley decided to try Movember for the first time last year and this year organized a group of law students to grow a mo' with him. The cause was personal for Winstanley who told Georgetown Patch that an aunt was diagnosed with breast cancer a year ago and an uncle was diagnosed with prostate cancer shortly thereafter. "The combination made me want to do something to help," explained Winstanley.

At the end of his one month venture, Winstanley raised $435 on his own and with his teammates a total of just over $4,000. The Movember Foundation in the U.S. raises money for prostate cancer research  and benefits the Prostate Cancer Foundation and LIVESTRONG.
